# Public directory

The [Directory](https://www.sureshake.com/directory) lists companies, people, and capital providers. You can browse it and open public company pages without an account.

## Who controls a profile

| Kind                  | Who controls it                                                                         |
| --------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Reference profile** | Nobody at the company. Sureshake assembled it from cited public sources.                |
| **Managed profile**   | The organization, which maintains its public facts and can file reports and share them. |
| **Public reference**  | Nobody at the company. It's based on SEC filings.                                       |

These labels describe the record, and they aren't a rating of the company. See [Disclosure levels](/directory/disclosure-levels/).

## Search

Choose a tab at the top of the results.

| Tab                   | What it searches                                                                                                                   |
| --------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **All**               | Everything below except startup search                                                                                             |
| **Companies**         | Company records. This is the default.                                                                                              |
| **People**            | Person profiles                                                                                                                    |
| **Capital providers** | Verified capital providers, by stated mandate and how fresh it is                                                                  |
| **Startups**          | Published startup profiles and public evidence, for [verified capital providers](/investors/#verify-your-capital-provider-profile) |

Narrow companies by **Industry**, **Location**, **Company type**, or **Public filings**. Narrow capital providers by **Stage**, **Sector**, **Geography**, check size, **Lead behavior**, and **Mandate freshness**.

Select at least two companies and choose **Compare selected** to view them side by side.

## What to do next

- **Publish your company** — Control whether your company is listed and what its public page shows.
- **Claim your profile** — Take over a reference profile for an organization you represent.
- **Contribute to the directory** — Correct a public fact or report a duplicate.
- **Manage your portfolio** — Choose which portfolio companies show on an investor's page.
- **Reference profiles** — Read the sources and status labels on a profile.
- **Capital Graph** — See who backs a company and which investors move together.
