# Reference profiles

A reference profile is a record Sureshake assembles from cited public sources. The organization didn't write it and doesn't manage it, and nothing on it is presented as the organization's own statement.

Being a reference profile says nothing against the organization. Most organizations start this way.

## Check where a fact came from

Open the **Company actions** menu (the ⋮ button beside the company name) and choose **Sources**. The **Sources and verification** panel has two parts.

**Verification** answers separate questions, one row each. There's no combined score.

| Row | What it can say |
| --------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Profile control** | **Not managed by the organization**, **Management claim under review**, **Managed; identity verification not completed**, or **Identity verified by Sureshake** |
| **Reference sources** | How many sources are cited, and when they were last checked |
| **Filing integrity** | How many filings are timestamped |
| **Confirmed relationships** | How many relationships are confirmed through Sureshake |

Rows with nothing to report are left out. A missing **Confirmed relationships** row means none are confirmed through Sureshake. It doesn't mean the organization has no relationships.

**Sources** lists the sources behind the record, with a link where a public URL is available. If there are none, you'll see **No cited public sources yet**.

A citation shows where a fact came from. It doesn't verify who controls the profile or that the fact is still correct, so check the date.

## Other labels you may see

| Label | What it means |
| ------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Claim under review** | Someone has asked to manage the profile. The reference record stays visible during the review. |
| **Material fact under review** | A fact on the record is being reviewed. |
| **Archived** | The profile is kept as a historical public record. |

## What you can do

- **You represent the organization.** [Claim your profile](/directory/claim-your-profile/).
- **A fact is wrong.** [Suggest a correction](/directory/contribute/#suggest-a-correction).
- **You want private material.** Reference profiles don't offer access requests, because nobody manages the profile yet.

To see how reference profiles sit alongside managed ones, see [Disclosure levels](/directory/disclosure-levels/).
