# For recruiters

This guide shows you how to post a role for your company and take its applications through to a decision.

## Before you start

Your company's hiring workspace is at `https://www.sureshake.com/entities/<company-id>/hiring`. Use the ID from your company's URL.

| Task | Who can do it |
| ------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Create, publish and close roles | The company owner |
| Review applications and change status | The owner, and team members whose role includes this permission |
| Send feedback to candidates | The owner, and team members whose role includes this permission |

If you see **Hiring access required**, your account doesn't have any of these permissions for the company.

## Create a role

> **Check the role before you create it**
>
> You can't change a role after you create it. To correct a role, create a new
> one and close the old one.

1. **Open the form**

In the hiring workspace, select **Create Role**.
2. **Basic Info**

Enter the **Role Title**, which is required, then **Description**, **Location**, **Work Type** and **Visibility**. Visibility starts as **Private**.
3. **Compensation**

Optionally enter a **Minimum** and **Maximum**, with a **Currency** and **Period**.
4. **Problem Specs**

Add the problems candidates must respond to. Each one needs a **Prompt**. **Success Criteria** is optional.

Candidates see the success criteria on the public role page.
5. **Rubric**

Add the dimensions you will assess, each with a **Name**, **Weight** and scale. Enter the weight as a decimal, so `0.4` appears to candidates as 40%.

Candidates see your rubric on the public role page. Sureshake shows it but doesn't score against it, so record your scoring wherever your team keeps it.
6. **Review**

Check the summary, then select **Create Role**. The role is saved as a **Draft**, and candidates can't see it through the role page yet.

## Publish a role

Open the role and select **Publish**, then confirm. Who can reach it depends on its visibility:

| Visibility | Who can reach it |
| ------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Public** | Anyone, through the [hiring page](https://www.sureshake.com/hiring) or a direct link |
| **Unlisted** | Anyone with the link. Unlisted roles also appear on the hiring page, so don't rely on this setting to keep a role confidential |
| **Private** | Your team, in the hiring workspace. Candidates can't open the role page or apply through it |

Once published, select **View Public Page** to see what candidates see.

## Close a role

Open the role and select **Close**, then confirm. The role stops taking applications through the site and its public page is no longer available. Applications you already received stay in the workspace.

## Review applications

1. **Open the applications**

In the workspace, select **Manage All Roles**. Then open **Applications** on
the role you want. You can filter the list by status.
2. **Start the review**

Open an application to see the candidate's name, cover letter and responses.
Select **Start Review** to move it to **In Review**.
3. **Finish your evaluation**

Select **Mark Evaluated** to move it to **Evaluated**.
4. **Decide**

Select **Hire** or **Reject**. See [what a decision
   records](/hiring/outcomes/).

An application only moves forward through these steps, and you can't undo a step. You need to mark an application as evaluated before you can reject it. A candidate can withdraw while it is **Submitted** or **In Review**.

## Send feedback

You can send feedback once you have started a review, including after a decision. You can send it once per application, and you can't edit it afterwards.

1. **Open the form**

On the application, select **Give Feedback**.
2. **Write your feedback**

Add at least one item under **Strengths** or **Areas for Improvement**, or
   write **Additional Notes**.
3. **Send it**

   Select **Send Feedback to Candidate**.

The candidate's application page shows strengths and areas for improvement. Treat your additional notes as visible to the candidate too, because they are returned with the application.

## Use the API

To manage roles and applications from your own systems, see the [API reference](/reference/) and the [developer guide](/developers/).
