Disclosure levels

Read a company's disclosure level, and learn which settings control what it shares.

A company’s disclosure level tells you what kind of record sits behind its page. It describes the record and isn’t a rating of the company. It doesn’t grant access to anything private, either.

To see it, open the Company actions menu (the ⋮ button beside the company name) and choose Disclosure Level.

The levels

Symbol Level What it means
Open book Reference profile A reviewed record assembled from cited public sources. Nothing is presented as the organization’s own statement.
Building Managed profile The company controls the profile and chooses which fields are public. Figures are organization-supplied until a period is filed.
Stacked documents Managed · public filings Statement packages filed through Reporter, schema-checked and timestamped, unchanged since filing.
Civic building Public reference Based on SEC filings. Filing provenance doesn’t mean the organization manages this profile or that Sureshake has verified it.

Some reference profiles carry a more specific label:

  • Claim under review means someone has asked to manage the profile. A pending claim doesn’t yet establish management.
  • Material fact under review means a fact on the record is being reviewed.
  • Archived means the profile is kept as a historical public record.

The level isn’t a verdict on any single fact. For that, choose Sources in the same menu. See Reference profiles.

A timestamp shows that a filing hasn’t changed since it was filed. It doesn’t show that the contents are correct. See How proof works.

If you’re reading a company’s page

  • Choose Request access, when offered, for restricted information. The company decides whether to approve it. See Follow companies and request access.
  • Following a company or adding it to a watchlist doesn’t grant access to its private reports.
  • If you represent an unclaimed organization, see Claim your profile.

If you manage the company

You don’t pick a level. It follows from what you’ve done, and each step has its own control.

To do this Use this
Take control of a reference profile Claim your profile
Publish or withdraw the company The Directory Visibility switch. See Publish your company.
Add public filings File a period through Reporter. See Reporting.
Share private material Share reports, including recipients and revoking access

Publishing the company doesn’t publish private filings. Connecting an accounting source doesn’t make your financial information public.

As an owner, you’ll also see Your reporting progress in the disclosure panel, with your next step and a File a period through Reporter link. Other visitors don’t see this.
